2017 Downtown Greenway Recap

      • Artist call for public art bench on south section between Eugene and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
      • Held public meetings in February to get feedback on design options for Phase 4 (railroad corridor) and the continuation of the A&Y Greenway.
      • Held second Wheels on the Greenway on May 7, 2017—a kids biking and safety event in Morehead Park.
      • Completed functional design for Phase 4 in summer 2016.
      • Public Meetings held on August 15, 2017 to get feedback on functional design for Phase 4.
      • Public Meetings held at New Zion Church on August 22, 2017 to get ideas for the artist bench on Phase 1c.
      • Completed design and right of way acquisition on Phase 2; and received construction authorization from NCDOT in September.
      • Constructed and opened the Innovation Cornerstone at Lindsay and Murrow in September at the 8th Annual Run 4 the Greenway.
      • Ribbon Cutting Celebration for the opening of LoFi Park at the corner of Eugene, Smith and Battleground on September 23.
      • In October, began construction of northern leg along Fisher Avenue between Greene and Eugene along Eugene between Fisher and Smith.
      • Began construction of southern leg along Bragg Street between Eugene and MLK in December.
      • Passage of Parks & Recreation bond in November election to construct Phase 4.
      • Public meetings held at Morehead Foundry for public input on 75% design of Phase 4 on November 30th.
