Description
Greensboro’s Historic College Hill neighborhood is the city’s oldest and most diverse. The spectrum of age, ability, building architecture and purpose, economic status, gender identity, occupation, race, and ethnicity all reside in College Hill. This public art installation represents and celebrates this significance. Attractive and appealing to multi-generational residents and visitors, Backyard Bird Conversations consists of three sculptural benches in the form of common backyard birds – bluebird, cardinal, and goldfinch – with wing and mask patterns referencing architectural details apparent on the homes of the neighborhood. Oversized, with vivid hues presented in a spectrum, the installation symbolizes the importance of noticing our commonalities among our differences, and continuing and amplifying conversations centered on diversity and inclusivity.
