Update on design and construction
Posted onThe northern section from Fisher/Greene to Eugene, down Eugene from Fisher to Smith, and along Smith between Spring and Prescott: Construction was anticipated for summer 2015, but has been delayed due to only one bidder with an estimate 40% higher than expected. The project was re-bid in October 2015 and with a successful bid – construction would begin in Summer 2016.
The design for the Innovation Cornerstone at the corner of Lindsay and Murrow Blvd was approved in October. Construction began in May 2016. Anticipated completion of the site at the first of September with a ribbon cutting planned on Saturday, September 24 from 3-4 pm before the 2016 Run 4 the Greenway.
The bid for the construction on the southern section along Bragg Street between Eugene and MLK was advertised in spring 2016. Construction should begin at the end of summer 2016.
The eastern section along Murrow Boulevard from Lee Street heading north, underneath Summit Avenue, and continuing on to the intersection of Fisher and Greene: Public meetings were held on April 27, 2015, 100% design completed in summer 2016. Following authorization from NCDOT and right of way acquisition, we hope for construction to begin in early 2017.
Design work began late spring 2015 on the western leg along the railroad tracks from Spring Garden to Smith Street. Public meetings were held on December 10, 2015. Additional public meetings will be scheduled for February 25, 2016 to give public chance to review recommended design. A final functional design presented in spring 2016, a final engineered design expected in summer 2017, and construction expected following that.
