While construction continues along the Western Branch section of the Downtown Greenway, additional planning is underway to enhance the natural environment in this area. Join us to learn more and provide your feedback!

The Downtown Greenway is pleased to announce that we will host a public meeting on Thursday, April 24 from 5-7 pm on the Greensboro College campus in the Sternberger Center in Jones Library. Parking is located in front of the Center on College Branch Way accessed from McGee Street. This meeting will provide an opportunity for community feedback about landscaping that will be installed along the Western Branch of the Downtown Greenway. This is the former railroad corridor that runs along the western side of the Downtown Greenway between Smith Street and Spring Garden Street.

Habitat Assessment and Restoration Professionals (HARP) has been chosen to lead this effort. HARP is committed to providing the highest quality of service for its clients and partners, while upholding responsible environmental and ecological principles and practices. Their many years of experience impressed the selection committee members, and we look forward to the community having the opportunity to meet the team and to share insights into the type of look and feel that is desired in this location.

Dabney Sanders, Project Manager for the Downtown Greenway notes, “Whether you live in the surrounding neighborhoods or plan to enjoy this section when completed, this is your chance to have a voice in shaping what is to come.”
