Description
This whimsical sculpture by artists Brad Oldham and Christy Coltrin honors the leadership and lasting impact of Downtown Greenway project manager Dabney Sanders. Inspired by her personal interests, the piece features a tandem bicycle carrying two chickens and a puppy, playfully setting off along the trail.
The imagery reflects both everyday joy and a spirit of exploration. The chickens represent grounded, simple pleasures often found close to home, while the puppy, with ears flapping in motion, embodies curiosity, loyalty, and play. Together, they echo the experience of the Downtown Greenway itself – a place where movement, connection, and discovery unfold in the natural rhythm of the landscape.
Hand-sculpted details throughout the piece add layers of meaning. A woven basket pattern incorporates symbols drawn from Sanders’ life and the greenway, inviting visitors to look closer and uncover a deeper story. Rooted in both personal tribute and shared experience, Off We Go celebrates the power of place and the journeys – big and small – that connect a community.
