Description

This bench represents the Morehead Park neighborhood. The design of this public art seating area reflects its proximity to Greensboro’s Blandwood Mansion, an estate once owned by Governor John Motley Morehead, governor of North Carolina in the late 1800’s, as well as its location near “Foundation Place”, a historic building that originally housed the executive offices of the Cone Export and Commission Company. Turn of the century furniture, including a traditional Victorian style settee and a more unusual “Tobacco Chair” found in nearby restored Blandwood Mansion, was used as inspiration for the creation of this piece.
