Greenway volunteers were invited to an evening of food and music at the Gallery at Greenhill on December 9th. Trip Brown, co-chair of the Downtown Greenway Oversight Committee and volunteer since the project began 13 years ago was given an award that included a piece of the railroad track after the sale of Chandler Concrete in October 2014 for all his hard work on the project. Chandler Concrete Inc sells concrete manufacturing plant at 1420 Mill Street and signed restrictive covenant agreeing to cease use of the railroad track that runs adjacent to the property. Property purchased by Mill Street Commons LLC. Plans begin moving forward for design of Greenway along rail line on Phase 4. Click here to read article in the Triad Business Journal.

Greenway volunteers came out on a Saturday morning in June to learn how to prune, weed, and water the vegetation at Meeting Place at Tradition Cornerstone with the guidance of local organic gardening expert Charlie Headington. A rotating group of volunteers have committed to helping maintain the edible orchard every two weeks through the fall. Interested in helping? Lincoln Financial employees adopted a section of the Downtown Greenway on Morehead Park, and came out this spring to maintain the section of the trail between Lee and Spring Garden Streets. Volunteers picked up trash and pulled weeds in gardens and natural areas. Thank you, Lincoln Financial, for your continued support of the Greenway and for keeping the trail clean and green!
